Taxi Cab

Taxi Cab

I could swear

That I saw you

In the reflection of shimmering lights

Out the window of my taxi cab

We passed over

Memories of us

Like a hitchhiker off the side of the road

The meter keeps flickering

Binary Morse code

I deciphered all its meaning

A bandage for my poor hearts bleeding

New York City rain

Seeping through passenger doors

Like a vision of your body

Each time I close my eyes

I plead, don’t drive me home

Let me stay in this dream

Where your hand doesn’t let go of mine

Until my destination arrives

Like the thief in the Bible

Stealing you away from me

I’ll still leave a tip

For this momentary flashback

Is worth every penny

I swore I saw you…

Maybe So

Maybe So

You say that the love of the father is not in me

I’ll shrug and say… it maybe so

That I’m taken by the world and all that’s in it

I’ll think for a moment and say… it maybe so

And that I’ve must’ve never been saved or blessed

I’ll look down and say… it maybe so

That I’m a lie, a walking contradiction

I’ll smirk and say… it maybe so

You’ll give up on me, and say I’m lost

That I don’t have a clue

That I know nothing and hold nothing

I’ll smile and say

Now you get it

Eternally

I will lose you

Let me remember the warmth of your touch

I won’t hear your voice one day

Sit and talk with me all night

You won’t be standing in front of me forever

Please won’t you dance for me again?

One day your kisses will end

Let me close my eyes one last time in your passion

Your scent will be a memory

So hold me close

So that I am able to smile

Remembering you

Remembering this moment

Eternally
