Ever changing am I

A chord progression in song

An ending of a season

The leaf that withers

And blooms as plant on the ground

I beg of you

Don’t seek to nail me down

Into this or that

I’ll fail each and every time

I always color outside the line

There is no reason nor tale to tell

Only awakening to today

And eternally resting yesterday

A froth of water to shore

Returning to its source

Such am I

Ever changing…. forevermore

Somewhere right now

In another realm and time

I’m breathing your scent

Grasping your hand tightly

And Lord I pray

That I embrace that moment

Appreciate it fully

What I know now

That this memory of you

Haunts my heart with sadness

It can never be again

Censor Me

Do not censor me

For My tongue won’t lie on the day of judgement

No matter your persecution

I entered this realm alone

And shall return the same

The lashings on my back from your torment

Will heal into a beautiful design

A lifeline to my future seeds

Who will call upon in need

My fist will still rise up

Even with shoulder crushed

And a cross bearing it’s nails

It will be the ones who came before

Who will lift me

And mount my soul on its throne

And with open cowry shells speak letters

Defining the past present and what’s to come

Life burning like a mystical dragon

Through the spirit of my spirit

No don’t you dare stop my indigenous teachings

Do not try to subdue me

With a false idol that fits your controlling ways

Docile for too long

I fight back with an embraced truth

No don’t you dare censor me

Downtown Train

Downtown Train
For hours I have anticipated catching you
Looking up departure times online
I find myself drifting with the hopes of where you will take me
I know our ride always ends quick
Far too fast for me to savor the movements we partake of
Stop after stop flies by like a blur
Leaving imprints behind
Your doors shut abruptly over and over
As if you were a scorned lover
Light and dark track your shadows constantly
In and out of tunnels we go
Bridges we cross and wave goodbye
I don’t dare drown you out with earphones filled with music
The roaring of your motions plays like a melody in my ears
How perfect this affair we carry
Where screeching and passionate collide
You bring me to my stop with furious precision
Cold like you slam shut the doors to your warmth inside
And time after time I find myself standing out in the cold
Surprised to feel sad and satisfied at the same time
I watch you run from me
To the next destination
How you remind me of my past lovers
My downtown train…

For a little while I felt you
Warm kisses like sunlit spring afternoons
I realized you were attainable
That for a moment you appeared before me
Dressed in the stars of heaven
Brightly you bought a smile to my frowned lips
I didn’t need to reminisce
When I held you
Pocketful of beach sand
I squeezed til there was no more
And then it came
The snapshot of yesterday
The vivid clamor of hurts
I withdrew into the habitual
Pointed fingers back at you
And didn’t want to accept
That such a thing be true
And that it could be you
For a little while I felt you
And it’s all I will ever need
